RECOGNIZING ALZHEIMER’S AND BRAIN AWARENESS MONTH

In recognition of Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month, we at the Center for Elder Law & Justice want to acknowledge the dedicated caregivers who work hard to provide the best quality of life for their loved ones. The Center for Elder Law & Justice has partnered with the Alzheimer’s Association (WNY Chapter) and the NYS Office for the Aging to serve Western New Yorkers diagnosed with Alzheimer’s or a related dementia and their caregivers. Our priority is to alleviate some of the stress faced by caregivers by providing advice and assistance with long-term care and end-of-life plans. Caring for a loved one diagnosed with Alzheimer’s or a related dementia presents a unique set of challenges that change over time, and our team is here to help with these transitions.

Our staff helps clients execute advanced directives such as health care proxies, power of attorneys, living wills, last will and testaments, and burial directives free of charge. We encourage caregivers to seek early intervention to ensure your loved one’s wishes are respected throughout every stage of their diagnosis and to avoid time consuming, stressful, and expensive proceedings. Including an attorney as part of your loved one’s support team often leads to improved outcomes in multiple areas.

Alzheimer’s is a growing health concern in New York State, and caregiving responsibilities primarily fall to unpaid family members. The Alzheimer’s Association reports that 427,000 people aged 65 and older are living with Alzheimer’s in New York State, and 543,000 family members have taken on the responsibility of caring for their loved ones. We are proud to partner with local and national organizations dedicated to supporting these devoted caregivers in the community. Wear purple throughout the month of June to spread awareness for the disease. Please reach out to 1-844-700-1872 or 716-853-3087 ext. 250 with any questions you may have, and we will do everything we can to provide guidance and support.
