MOBILE LEGAL UNIT
The Center for Elder Law & Justice offers both in-person and virtual options for our Mobile Legal Unit!
The Mobile Legal Unit is a team of attorneys and paralegals that travel throughout Western New York to offer free one-on-one legal consultations with a goal of providing “done in a day” legal assistance, as well as general information about CELJ and referral information for applicable non-legal services. Brief presentations on various topics are available upon request. Some examples of matters that the MLU can assist with include:
Debt harassment and/or consumer billing concerns
Obtaining and/or reviewing credit reports
Health Care Proxies
Tenants’ rights
New Americans and Immigration
Kinship care
Mortgage and tax foreclosure
Open enrollment, Medicaid, and Medicare Medicare
Reviewing medical bills
Financial exploitation and elder abuse
We also provide legal and financial health check-ups to anyone over the age of 60 using the Legal Risk Detector and Senior Financial Safety Tool. Just like receiving a yearly physical from your doctor, it is important to take preventative measures to identify any legal issues before they become an emergency.
